Eleven Shrine Cluster

Although most maps of the Shwedagon Paya identify the Eleven Shrine Cluster, it is more difficult unearthing much information about the shrine. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful free standing structure just to the east of the Ground of Victory. The shrine contains niches resembling the Shrine of the Eight Buddhas and the Eight Planets but, as the photo to the left attests, the niches are replaced by actual shrines, although we were unable to identify the deities involved. And, in place of zedi in the center, there is a beautiful golden Buddha image underneath a golden umbrella. It may have little religious significance, but it is a georgeous structure.
